PHF Golf Tournament (11:30 AM)
Please join us for the 12th Annual Hospitality Foundation Golf Tournament to promote the lodging industry as a career choice. Proceeds from the Tournament benefit the Pennsylvania Hospitality Foundation (PHF), an affiliate of the PA Tourism and Lodging Association. The mission of the Foundation is to support the Lodging Management Program (LMP), a national educational program for high school juniors and seniors. LMP prepares students for employment in the hotel industry or for the pursuit of industry-related post-secondary education. Your participation will help raise funds to support the management of LMP. Funds are used to provide technical support to participating high schools and to recruit additional schools to offer the program. The Foundation also supports a State LMP Competition and a National LMP Competition where students compete against each other in a variety of activities designed to test their skill-level and professionalism in the hospitality management field. In March, students from the Monroe Career Technical Institute placed first in the State Competition and won the right to represent PA in the National Competition. The team then took home the national title in the seventh annual National Competition held April 15-17, 2010, in Orlando, FL.

SPREAD THE WORD, KEEP THE MEMBER: MEMBERSHIP COMMUNICATIONS IN GOOD TIMES & BAD (8:30 AM - 12:30 PM)
If you think that your members are clear on your mission, strategic plan or even your most current member benefits, you better think again! Survey after survey has shown that members are typically in the dark about what their association is doing for them. Too many members cannot put their fingers on why they should renew. Change this situation now! This informative and interactive workshop will look at a variety of unique ways to ensure your membership base is informed and engaged. By sharing the stage, you will get two professional perspectives from two dynamic communication pros. Here’s what you will learn: Part One: Tell it to Sell It: Leza Raffel, President of the Communication Solutions Group. During a dynamic first-half of this workshop, Leza will walk you through untapped opportunities for reinforcing the benefits of membership and securing meaningful member feedback every time a connection with a member occurs. If less than positive news is on your communication plate, Leza will share strategies for delivering bad news strategically and effectively. To get the most of this session, bring your association’s specific challenge or dilemma and be prepared to leave with sound communication options for addressing it! Part Two: The Executive (Director’s) Presence: You Need it. How Do You Get It? Marilyn Nyman, President, of the Nyman Group. You make a first impression in the first 10 seconds…whether interfacing with your newest member or a seasoned member of your Board of Directors. How can you make the most of what others see and hear when they interact with you? By developing your Executive Presence… the unique interaction of body language and voice that creates an impact immediately. Through a dynamic and interactive “info-tainment” session, Marilyn Nyman will show you how to maximize the visual, vocal and verbal impact of your Executive Presence. You will leave both sessions with a brand new perspective on how to master member communications.
