PA Convention Center to Celebrate 25 Years
PHILADELPHIA – The Pennsylvania Convention Center will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a signature event on Thursday, May 10 in its Broad Street Atrium. Mayor Jim Kenney and Michael Chapaloney, the Executive Director of Tourism for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, will speak about the impact the Center has had on the city and state over the past quarter century.
The Center, which opened in May 1993, generated $643 million regional economic impact in 2017. This kickoff event, with invited members of the hospitality community, marks the opening of the Center in May 1993. The PECO Crown Lights will also commemorate the Center’s 25th Anniversary, May 8-10.
Philly-style food and refreshments will be available with birthday cake to celebrate the occasion. An extra special surprise for attendees will be a 10-ton sand sculpture designed to look like a birthday cake for the Convention Center. Wizard World Comic Con will provide comic characters for photo ops. The event coincides with National Travel & Tourism Week 2018 and other programs held by travel and tourism partners in this region. PCC will also host a free community festival on June 30 with Wawa Welcome America as it did 25 years ago. The public is invited to that event.
