Philadelphia to Host Taste America Pop-Up Dinner at Spice Finch to Celebrate Diversity of American Cooking and Highlight the Foundation’s Good Food for Good Platform
Philadelphia will welcome the James Beard Foundation’s Taste America® presented by Capital One® for a one-night-only pop-up dinner as part of the larger Taste America national culinary series. Taste America brings delicious food and thought-provoking conversation surrounding the nonprofit’s mission of cultivating a better food world for all.
The Taste America: Philadelphia pop-up dinner, hosted at Spice Finch in partnership with VISIT PHILADELPHIA®, will take place on Tuesday, April 14th, featuring a menu crafted by James Beard Award winner and Visiting All-Star Chef Vishwesh Bhatt (Snackbar, Oxford, MS) and Host Chefs and Local All-Star Chefs Jennifer Carroll and Billy Riddle (Spice Finch, Philadelphia, PA).
To kick off the evening, Jennifer Carroll and Billy Riddle will present guests with a taste of their signature modern Mediterranean cuisine, alongside expertly paired cocktails courtesy of Aqua Vitae Institute, Philadelphia’s premier center for alcohol education and events. Following the cocktail and tasting reception, guests will savor a four-course dinner prepared by Bhatt, Carroll, and Riddle that celebrates the diverse flavors, cuisines, and backgrounds that contribute to American cooking.
Spotlighting issues within the Foundation’s Good Food for Good™ platform, including food waste reduction, sustainability, inclusivity, and chef advocacy, the seventh annual cross-country food series highlights the organization’s mission-forward Impact programs and initiatives, while dishing out tasty bites to the food-loving community of Philadelphia.
This year marks the third year in a row that the James Beard Foundation’s Taste America has visited Philadelphia, and the first year the city will host a Taste America pop-up dinner. In October 2019, Philadelphia hosted a first-of-its-kind “Raising the Bar” cocktail and tasting event at Porta, showcasing the city’s rising chef and beverage talent to 250 locals and visitors alike. In November 2019, Philadelphia and The Fitler Club hosted the Taste America gala and benefit dinner, raising over $180,000 for the Foundation.
“Greater Philadelphia’s food scene has gathered an unbelievable amount of steam in recent years. Today, it touts countless award-winning chefs, restaurants and dishes,” said Jeff Guaracino, president and CEO, VISIT PHILADELPHIA®, a Local Partner organization of the James Beard Foundation. “VISIT PHILADELPHIA is committed to supporting food tourism. Through Taste America and the other aspects of our partnership,
we’ll drive overnight visitation to our region and highlight the Foundation’s mission to make America’s food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone.”

In addition, the Foundation has partnered with Food Recovery Network to ensure that Taste America events are Food Recovery Verified, meaning that all surplus food from the series will be recovered and donated to hunger-fighting nonprofits, who support food-insecure individuals, in each city. Through Food Recovery Verified, the Foundation can do its part to reduce food waste and hunger at the community level.
