Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Company Brightens the Christmas Holiday

With a Two Day Outdoor Theatrical Spectacle of Their Original Musical Adaptation of Charles Dickens' Classic, "A Christmas Carol"

Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Company will bring the Spirit of Christmas to Historic Smithville, 615 E. Moss Mill Rd, Smithville, NJ 08205, with a two day outdoor "Dickens Fest" featuring an original, musical adaptation of "A Christmas Carol", Charles Dickens' heartwarming, classic tale of redemption and transformation, performed on their large, beautifully crafted, portable stage, on Saturday, December 12th, at 1 PM and 7 PM and Sunday, December 13th, at 1 PM. Admission to "Dickens Fest" is free and parking is free.

The casts of the shows include actors from the Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Companytroupe along with many children of all ages from the community, with a rousing Christmas carol sing-along playing a featured role in the productions.

Ready to Roll Ryan Long, Executive Director of Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Company, is eagerly looking forward to hitting the road to present the "Dickens Fest" at Historic Smithville.  "We have over 20 years of experience creating original shows and performing them at a wide variety of venues on the east coast," said Long, "but this will be the first time we'll present a major, "Main Stage" production, like 'A Christmas Carol', outdoors." "Even though we have participated in outdoor fairs and festivals and have had our share of presenting outdoor shows at everywhere from wineries and swim clubs, to amusement parks and kids' summer camps over the years, putting on this "Dickens Fest" is in a different league." "When the pandemic hit, we realized we had to shift gears and up our game to present larger scale, outdoor shows," he explained. "So, we designed and built a modular, portable, outdoor stage that we can easily bring to any venue to set up and use to present a high caliber production that is lifted up off the cement or grass and onto a real, professional stage, just like Shakespeare did!" "Then, we got a hold of a bus with a trailer so we can haul our stage anywhere and have room to carry all the other necessary production components like sound and lighting equipment, sets, costumes, and even our cast, if we need to!  Now, all the world truly can be a stage for us!" A Holiday Getaway Historic Smithville will be decked out for the holidays and bustling with activities for the whole family. Its  charming specialty shoppes, the award-winning, historic Smithville Inn restaurant and 3 other restaurants within the village will be open to visit and enjoy before the shows, during intermissions or after the shows.  Reservations are suggested.

For added entertainment, their whimsical Smithville Train and fanciful Smithville Carousel, two unique, timeless attractions that evoke romance, adventure and playful fun, will also be open and running both days for children and adults to ride on and share an unforgettable experience.

A special holiday attraction at Historic Smithville, their Magic Talking Christmas Tree, will return this year, to the surprise and delight of inquisitive visitors. Towering above the Smithville Train Station, this majestic, beautifully decorated Christmas tree awakens to talk with children and adults about the upcoming holidays or anything else their hearts desire!  Visitors can engage the Magic Talking Tree in conversation from 12 PM - 7 PM on Saturday and from 12 PM - 6 PM on Sunday.

Attendees of the two day "Dickens Fest" are encouraged to stay for the highlight of Historic Smithville's annual Christmas celebration that occurs each evening at nightfall. That's when an orchestrated Holiday Lights Showbegins, revealing 120 Christmas trees decorated with over 50,000 Christmas lights that appear to magically float on Lake Meone in the center of Historic Smithville. As the synchronized colored lights on the trees gaily dance to everyone's favorite holiday music, they seem to be chasing after their twinkling reflections on the water’s surface. This captivating Holiday Lights Show can be seen from either side of the village as well as from the bridge from 5:30 - 8:30 PM.
