The following compilation of updates highlights just a few of the notable developments at a wide range of properties and destinations throughout the region and beyond.
Maryland & Virginia
Live! Casino and Hotel
Live! Casino and Hotel will welcome the first overnight guests to its new luxury Live! Hotel on May 22, 2018. The 310-room hotel will be the first hotel to carry The Cordish Companies’ nationally-renowned Live! brand.
Located at Live! Casino, the 350,000-square foot hotel features lavish guest rooms designed with a mix of modern style and chic, urban flare, along with public spaces showcasing floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings and striking accents throughout. New dining and nightlife options include David’s, which features an eclectic menu of culinary creations inspired by The Cordish Companies’ Chairman David Cordish’s world travels; The Lobby Bar at David’s; and Luckies, offering expertly crafted espresso, Starbucks coffee drinks, fresh-baked pastries, and a variety of Italian specialty gelato.
The Live! Spa will provide a luxurious and welcoming escape in which to relax and recharge. The facility will offer a variety of massage therapies, body polishes, and body wraps, along with advanced skincare and anti-aging treatments, a fully-equipped gym, and a salon offering manicures, pedicures, hair services and more.
The final phase of opening will occur in June 2018 with the debut of the Grand Event Center, featuring more than 20,000-square feet of customizable event space, including a large ballroom with six breakout rooms, expansive pre-function space, and a 1,500-seat concert venue with a built-in performance stage featuring a regular lineup of headline entertainment.
A Phase 2 expansion project, to be completed in Spring 2019, will double the size of the meeting and banquet space to 40,000-square feet, and enlarge the Event Center seating capacity to 4,000 seats.
Live! also operates Live! Lofts, a boutique hotel minutes from the casino. Together, the properties will offer guests 560 rooms for overnight accommodations and nearly 25,000-square feet of space for events and private meetings.
Inn at Perry Cabin by Belmond
St. Michaels, MD
While a soft opening of the new Links 18-hole championship golf course in nearby Martingham is expected this summer, designed by legendary architect Pete Dye, the course will celebrate its official grand opening in the early part of 2019. Playing through trees and rolling terrain, this course will offer stunning water views and reprise famous golf holes from other great courses, such as the island green at Sawgrass and the “Biarritz” hole at Yale Golf Club.
After the grand opening, the course will be available to members as well as guests of Inn at Perry Cabin by Belmond, and will serve as the property's newest amenity offering for groups.
In addition, the Inn soon will add a new Tennis Club that includes three state-of-the-art outdoor Har-Tru tennis courts, which will be lighted for both day and night play. The tennis program will be led by Director of Tennis Robert Wright, a LTA-certified teaching pro with more than a decade of experience. Set to start this summer, expanded offerings will be available for both adult and junior programs, as well as special events and seasonal programs.
What’s more, Inn at Perry Cabin by Belmond boasts 78 recently renovated guest rooms and suites, 5,000-square feet of event space, the award-winning Stars restaurant, plus a fleet of yachts including a 55-foot Hinckley along with other luxury performance vessels that are available for private excursions. Sunset sails, chartered cruises and sailing lessons also can be arranged for guests through the resort's Sailing Academy.
Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center
National Harbor, MD
Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center will be renovating its 1,996 guest rooms and suites at the end of 2018 as part of its 10th anniversary. The project follows its 2017 expansion, which added the resort’s freestanding waterfront venue, RiverView Ballroom, bringing its combined meeting space total to more than 600,000-square feet.
The resort’s signature restaurant, Old Hickory Steakhouse, also will undergo a transformation in August 2018. The restaurant concept introduces a fresh, new look with linenless tables, an expanded bar area, and new layout to optimize private dining space while maintaining its sophisticated cuisine with 1855-brand Black Angus beef, artisanal cheeses, world-class wines and handcrafted cocktails.
Main Event Columbia
After opening a new location in Newark, DE in March 2018, Main Event Entertainment - the nation’s fastest growing bowling anchored dining and entertainment destination - has now opened its first Maryland center in Columbia on May 8, 2018. Located at The Mall at Columbia, this 50,000-square foot center features 22 state-of-the-art bowling lanes with unique technology and luxury seating, laser tag, billiards, shuffleboard, and a games gallery with over 120 of the latest games.
“We are excited to expand into Maryland and to introduce our one-of-a-kind brand to everyone in the Columbia area,” said Darin Harper, CFO of Main Event Entertainment. “There’s nothing like Main Event in Maryland, and we have found the perfect location in The Mall at Columbia for its debut. In addition, Main Event has been consistently ranked the “best place for parties” thanks to its distinctive “Eat. Bowl. Play.” experience. And whether seeking chef-inspired food with shareables like wings, loaded nachos or oven-baked artisan pizza in a full-service American-fare grill or handcrafted cocktails in a high-energy sports bar surrounded by big screen TVs, Main Event’s chefs and bartenders can do it all.
The center also offers fully equipped private meeting spaces with the latest audio-visual technology, full-service catering, free Wi-Fi and everything else essential to hosting corporate meetings, team building exercises, holiday parties and other gatherings both large and small.
Kimpton Lorien Hotel and Spa
Kimpton Lorien Hotel and Spa in Old Town Alexandria has completed a $2.51-million redesign to its 107 guest rooms and suites, terraces, hallways, public areas, adjacent restaurant, and 5,600-square feet of meeting and event space.
With its dedicated award-winning spa, newly refinished modern and elegant interior design, and two culinary venues, this luxurious urban retreat is a destination in and of itself while also offering easy access to the sights and attractions of Washington, DC and the neighboring Virginia countryside.
The hotel’s signature Presidential and Diplomat Suites are designed for luxuriating, whether getting ready for a wedding day, prepping for a night on the town or hosting a private meeting. The multi-room suites feature parlors with sectional seating, reading chairs, and oversized bathrooms with spa rain showers. The Presidential Suite also features a contemporary dining set and built-in wet bar perfect for hosting receptions, bridal parties or meetings of up to 10 guests. Many suites, including the Presidential and Diplomat Suites, feature private terraces with sweeping views of Old Town, some as large as 700-square feet.
At the end of 2016, the hotel’s adjacent restaurant, BRABO, expanded its bar to double in size. Enhancing the French brasserie’s modern comfort, loyal patrons now enjoy more seating areas and natural lighting, new furniture, and locally curated artwork.
Cambria Hotel Philadelphia Downtown Center City
Cambria Hotel Philadelphia Downtown Center City opened in March 2018, showcasing stylish décor and upscale amenities. Just a few short blocks from major local attractions, including: Pennsylvania Convention Center, Rittenhouse Square, the Kimmel Center, and the arts and cultural district, the new hotel offers free Wi-Fi in guest rooms and common areas, as well as a fitness center, a restaurant, 100 percent smoke-free environment, a lounge/bar, rooftop terrace and a business center.
Cambria Hotel Philadelphia Downtown Center City also boasts a stylish and fully equipped boardroom and meeting rooms with over 1,700-square feet of flexible space with state-of-the-art technology and conference equipment.
Drexelbrook Catering and Special Event Center
Drexel Hill, PA
The Drexelbrook Catering and Special Event Center will be busy this summer preparing for the grand opening of their new H4 Model Holiday Inn and Suites, explains Domenick Savino, CPCE, the CEO and general manager. “In conjunction with the late summer opening, all rooms in the Event Center will be completely reimagined to reflect a modern, contemporary look that mirrors the state-of-the-art hotel. Our team is so excited for a new start and the addition of overnight rooms to become a full-service hospitality company.”
The Williamsburg Ballroom will be completely redesigned and renamed the Ballroom at the Mansion. The Mansion will feature sleek lines, natural light and a feeling of being “indoor/outdoor” through a large picturesque window and French doors that open to a side terrace.
A new conference room is part of a redesign of the Franklin Ballroom, which will be renamed The Franklin Conference Center and subdivided into breakout rooms with a common all-day food service area. High speed wireless Internet and advanced AV will be available throughout the property.
Adjoining the redesigned Special Event Center will be the new H-4 model Holiday Inn and Suites, an ultra-modern, amenity filled hotel with a full-service restaurant and beer garden to be named Street Light. The concept will feature local American-style cuisine along with a wine-by-the-glass, beer and specialty cocktail program. Master Chef Dale Miller will consult on the menu bringing a fresh, modern twist to classic dishes.
The outdoor patio will carry on the motif of the Street Light Beer Garden and will offer 12 rotating tap beer selections, sangria specials and tapas style plates for sharing. Live local talent will provide entertainment during summer and fall.
Peddler's Village is Bucks County's largest corporate retreat destination, home to the Golden Plough Inn, meeting space, nine restaurants and over 60 stores providing an atmosphere and setting that is unique, productive and entertaining. Among its newest offerings are two restaurants: Surf and Turf Kitchen, which opened in January 2018, and Boku Bowls, which opens this spring.
Pocono Mountains Region, PA
Camelback Resort, a premier adventure destination in the Pocono Mountains, is comprised of the award winning Camelback Lodge and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark, Camelbeach outdoor waterpark, Camelback Mountain Ski Area and Snowtubing Park, as well as Camelback Mountain Adventures.
The resort is adding some new dining options to its already diverse and extensive list of offerings. This additional dining will include Berrelli's Italian Kitchen, a perfect place to wind down after a day of adventure. The restaurant is located in what was previously called Glenn Lodge and will be a family-style authentic Italian restaurant.
Also, Graffiti Pizza soon will open and serve classics like calzones, hoagies, hot subs, strombolis, salads... and, of course - pizza! This uniquely designed restaurant will bring a touch of New York to the Pocono Mountains. Located inside Camelback Lodge, Graffiti Pizza will be open for lunch and dinner.
Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, Pocono Mountains
Pocono Manor, PA
Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in the Pocono Mountains has plans in place to more than double the property’s convention facilities with groundbreaking scheduled for later in 2018. Opening in late 2019, the expansion will add 105,000-square feet for a total of 205,000-square feet. The expansion includes a new 38,000-square foot Grand Ballroom, 12,000-square foot Junior Ballroom, and 18 meeting rooms, bringing the property’s total up to 33 meeting rooms in all.
The new expansion also includes improved Internet bandwidth speed - up to 1Gb/s throughout the resort with the capacity to increase up to 10 Gb/s.
In 2017, Kalahari Resorts and Conventions opened Phase II at the resort, which added 520 guest rooms that brought the resort’s total to nearly 1,000 guest rooms. New room styles exclusive to the Poconos include: Three Bedroom Pride Suites (1 king bedroom with master bath, 2 separate bedrooms with 2 queen beds each, full-sized sofa sleeper, and fireplace); and Big Five Suites (1 king bedroom with master bath, 4 separate bedrooms with 2 queen beds each, full-sized sofa sleeper, a fireplace, and furnished balcony).
Last year, the resort also added new dining experiences: Double Cut Charcoal Grill/Liquor Bar, Kalahari’s signature steak house experience featuring premium cuts of meat, craft cocktails, family-style sides and more; Sortino's Italian Kitchen, a new-aged, red-sauced restaurant where old-school Italian cuisine meets the modern age; Marrakesh Market with grab-and-go convenience and bazaar style shopping for unique gifts, authentic-African items and everyday needs; plus B-Lux Grill and Bar for handcrafted burgers, shakes and other American-style food made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Mohegan Sun Pocono
Mohegan Sun Pocono, owned by the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut, is situated on 400 acres near Wilkes-Barre and features a 238-room hotel with on-site spa and an adjacent 20,000-square foot convention center.
Home to 82,000-square feet of gaming space that includes 91 live table games, 2,300 slot machines and electronic table games, it also boasts a variety of dining and shopping options, nightlife, entertainment and live harness racing.
Mohegan Sun Pocono recently added a new Irish pub and eatery, Molly O’Shea’s. The venue features authentic Irish décor, live weekend entertainment, and one of the top beer and whiskey selections in the region.
“We’re beyond thrilled to open this new location inside Mohegan Sun Pocono for our guests. The nightlife at our property already has fantastic stops like Breakers and Bar Louie, and to now round it out with Molly O’Shea’s is very exciting,” notes Erica Tessier, vice president of marketing for Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Mount Airy Casino Resort
Mount Pocono, PA
Mount Airy Casino Resort recently announced the continued evolution of its dynamic property. The resort has partnered with prominent architectural firm Friedmutter Group to design a multimillion-dollar expansion that will introduce 100 new guest rooms and a 16,000-square foot ballroom and events center in the spring of 2019.
The resort also plans to open an Outdoor Concert Pavilion this May.
“This is an exciting year for Mount Airy Casino Resort as we invest in the future to raise the bar as the top leisure and events destination in Mount Pocono,” said Carmelo Seguinot, president and chief operating officer for Mount Airy Casino Resort. “Since opening... a decade ago, we’ve focused on continuously elevating the guest experience - introducing new culinary, nightlife and renovations. Our upcoming expansion will provide compelling new amenities and accommodations, ideal for upscale travelers and groups of every size.”
The spring 2019 expansion will launch the following new spaces: 100 new guest rooms, including four Executive Suites and five Junior Suites, putting the hotel’s total key count at 288. Elegant and contemporary, the guest room design concept will be inspired by the natural elements of the Poconos, maximizing dramatic views of the surrounding mountain scene.
Currently, Mount Airy Casino Resort offers 4,000-square feet of flexible banquet and meeting space for groups ranging in size from 30 to 200 people. In spring of 2019, an additional new 16,000-square foot meeting and convention center/ballroom will be introduced as a multi-functional state-of-the-art venue for banquets, private and corporate events, weddings and entertainment. The combined space (totaling 20,000-square feet) will accommodate seated dinners for up to 750 guests and will hold 1,200 attendees for events and concerts. The property’s amenities further enhance the resort as an events and wedding destination with a full-service spa, celebrity chef restaurants, 18-hole golf course, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, casino and nightclub.
The aforementioned 27,000-square foot Outdoor Concert Pavilion is slated to debut on May 26 for the resort’s Summer Stage Series kick-off. Powered by Anschutz Entertainment Group, the space will accommodate over 2,000 attendees.
Skytop is a resort and meeting destination set on 5,500-acres in the Pocono Mountains that features spacious suites, as well as luxuriously appointed guest rooms and cottages.
The centerpiece of the resort is The Lodge at Skytop, which is home to many of the property’s restaurants and shops. Its Main Lodge boasts 124 recently refreshed guest rooms and suites, along with a range of amenities and modern conveniences. Each guest room features a theme of Water, Garden or Mountain design that reflects the beauty of nature surrounding this destination resort.
The Lodge also has renovated its front desk and lobby area, and its former library space has been converted into the new Skytop Library Lounge, accommodating up to 60 people.
Nestled against the property’s award-winning golf course, the Inn at Skytop offers extraordinary views, a lobby with a two-story atrium, natural stone fireplace, pro shop, seasonal restaurant, lounge, and 18 guest rooms. Skytop’s cottages each offer four guest rooms.
Whether a large venue for formal presentations or smaller spaces for breakout groups or executives are needed, Skytop features a range of meeting options equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual and many amenities available through on-site meeting managers.
Located along Lake Teedyuskung, the Woodloch family of properties includes: Woodloch Pines family resort; an 18-hole championship golf course and community (Woodloch Springs); as well as sister property, The Lodge at Woodloch, an award-winning luxury destination spa. Collectively, the resort spans over 1200 acres and can accommodate over 1,000 guests.
The Lodge at Woodloch features 58 well-appointed guest rooms and a luxurious day spa featuring guest passes that allow for access to amenities such as spa services, use of men’s or women’s retreat, HydroMassage, WaterWalls and swimming pool facilities, a cardio-weight studio; select fitness classes; gourmet spa cuisine for lunch and/or dinner at TREE restaurant and bar; and a la carte spa treatments.
Woodloch Springs is an 18-hole championship golf course that has been recognized by Golf Magazine/Golf.com stating it is “one of the finest courses in America” and rated “4.5 Stars” by Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play.
Woodloch Springs features a total of 400 guest homes, 68 of which are managed by Woodloch. The resort features 160 guest rooms in four different room categories with most holding up to six people. Woodloch Springs also has four Lake Estate Homes, eight Southwoods Homes, and four Tallwoods Homes, each featuring multiple bedrooms.
In addition, Woodloch offers a unique meeting experience with exceptional team building activities. Meeting facilities can be found throughout the three properties with enough space to accommodate meetings large or small.
The Lakeview Dining Room is a newly renovated space at Woodloch Pines on the ground level that can host groups of up to 150 guests. The Inn at Woodloch overlooks Lake Teedyuskung and has spaces for groups up to 225 attendees. The elegant Vista Dining room by Woodloch Springs Golf Course can host events of up to 110 people.
South Jersey Shore
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino

Opening June 28, 2018, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City, set on 17-acres overlooking the Atlantic City boardwalk, will dial up the excitement with world-class entertainment and a music vibe unlike any other.
Its features include an expansive nightlife circuit with a lounge and 400-seat Hard Rock Cafe. Guest rooms and suites will be decked out with the latest comforts along with views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean. The resort will host world-class musicians, sporting events, conferences and shows that seat upwards of 7,000 people.
For gaming enthusiasts, the casino will boast 2,200 slots and 125 table games framed within a rock-chic interior. Food and beverage options will include fine-dining steak and seafood concepts, as well as casual eateries. Over 150,000-square feet of event space will accommodate large conventions, along with smaller events and trade shows.
Hard Rock serves as curators of the largest and most valuable music memorabilia collection in existence, so it is only natural that the interior and exterior design pay homage to music greats with museum-like displays adorning the walls throughout the property. The memorabilia will be carefully hand-selected and focused on contemporary musicians and artists with ties to New Jersey.
Tropicana Resort Casino
Atlantic City, NJ
In July 2017, Tropicana Atlantic City acquired The Chelsea Hotel, which is situated directly across the street. Tropicana has since renovated The Chelsea Tower hotel rooms, and is now ready to debut the its enhanced non-gaming amenities in time for the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend.
Among its key features are: Skybridge, a new enclosed pedestrian walkway connecting Tropicana guests to Chelsea Tower and its hotel rooms, swimming pools, dining and lounge offerings; Cabana Five Bar and Pool Deck, a rooftop swimming pool with full-service bar, poolside dining, cabana rentals and live entertainment (open only to guests age 21 and older); The saltwater Oasis Pool on the ground level nestled in a quiet and relaxing space adorned with greenery and patio furniture; Whiskey Five bar; Chelsea Five Gastropub featuring panoramic ocean views and an adjacent outdoor terrace lounge; plus Gilchrist Restaurant serving breakfast and lunch daily.
Since emerging from bankruptcy in 2010, with the capital and support of Icahn Enterprises (controlling shareholder), Tropicana AC has invested over $200 million in upgrades, renovations and enhancements across the property.
“Our property now features just under 2,400 hotel rooms, is the home of The Quarter (a 200,000-square foot entertainment complex), 26 restaurants, 25 shops, 20 bars and lounges, four pools, an IMAX Theatre and a spa,” stated Steve Callender, general manager of Tropicana Atlantic City. “The new restaurants and pools in The Chelsea Tower provide our guests with more non-gaming amenities to enjoy this summer.”
Tropicana’s $200 million investment also included a complete renovation of its South Tower guest rooms and suites, completed in early spring. On May 24, 2018, Tropicana will host a celebration to unveil the renovated South Tower to the public and also celebrate the official opening of The Chelsea Tower with a ceremonial ribbon cutting of the Skybridge. Tropicana’s Memorial Day Weekend celebrations will continue with a “Boardwalk Block Party” and fireworks on May 26.
Atlantic City, NJ
Harrah’s Atlantic City offers a sophisticated marina setting and an expansive roster of world-class resort amenities. Caesars Atlantic City Hotel and Casino features an elegant Roman theme, superb dining, luxurious spa and world-class shopping, plus impeccable service and attention to detail for meetings and events.
Bally’s Atlantic City, located next to Caesars in the middle of Atlantic City’s world-famous boardwalk, offers inviting interiors and a wealth of amenities that serve as an ideal escape from the everyday. Bally’s features a large casino floor, top-name entertainment, a dozen restaurants and clubs, and 80,000-square feet of function space conveniently situated on one level along with an experienced team to help planners.
Bally’s and Caesars also both offer unique oceanfront experiences, such as Bally’s Beach Bar. A new bar and lounge will be opening this spring at Caesars, which will be called 2100 Bar and Lounge.
Ocean Resort Casino
Atlantic City, NJ
A Hyatt affiliate has entered into a franchise agreement with AC Ocean Walk for the 1,399-room Ocean Resort Casino at the site of the former Revel casino in Atlantic City. The $3 billion landmark property, which was recently acquired by AC Ocean Walk, will join The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand, Hyatt's growing collection of unique and independent stay experiences with an expected opening of summer 2018.
At 710-feet and 60-stories tall and situated along 20-acres on the world-famous boardwalk, Ocean Resort Casino will be the tallest structure in AC.
The expansive 6.4-million square foot luxury resort will feature a 138,000-square foot casino, 160,000-square feet of indoor meeting and convention space - along with another 90,000-square feet of flexible outdoor special event space - plus five swimming pools, including a salt-water pool, a sun deck with cabanas, distinctive dining by Garces Group and LDV Hospitality, and entertainment experiences at day and nightclubs and a sports bar.
The resort also will include exhale, Hyatt's newly acquired fitness and spa brand, which will feature 32 treatment rooms, a mind body studio and retail boutique. The new spa will be the first exhale experience to open within a Hyatt-branded property.

Avalon, Wildwood, and Cape May, NJ
ICONA Resorts is currently undertaking a massive investment in its ICONA Avalon location (formerly Golden Inn) to further enhance the property’s positioning as a luxury destination meeting venue.
ICONA Avalon is expanding the capacity of its main ballroom space with additional indoor/outdoor veranda space, enhancing technology and audio-visual, adding new meeting rooms, new meeting furniture, heating the swimming pool deck and adding lighting and fire features to it so that it can be available for year-round use. In addition, increased focus and emphasis will be placed on full-service, luxury meeting and event experiences for guests.
The ICONA Avalon beachfront resort stretches across an entire oceanfront block giving guests access to some of the most coveted beach views in the state. This seaside resort’s decor gives a nod to Nantucket, as its all-new interiors, custom furniture and upscale finishes are the perfect complement to the classic luxury of the beach town of Avalon.
ICONA Avalon boasts 156 guest rooms, a swimming pool, restaurants, and the Sandbar Village Beach Bar. Available to host team building events, corporate retreats and more, on-site planners can help in choosing the perfect meeting space to catering and décor.
ICONA Diamond Beach in Wildwood Crest offers a sophisticated and stylish beachfront venue for team building, corporate retreats, incentive meetings, parties and presentations in a variety of settings. Its full-service meeting and event planning staff handles every detail, and all-inclusive packages make meetings and events worry-free. A sundeck, outdoor heated swimming pool and Beach Bar provide gathering spots for some fun in the sun, as well.
Joining some of America’s oldest seaside motels and charming Victorian bed-and-breakfasts, ICONA Cape May offers a fresh, new option for relaxation. This boutique, beachfront hotel offers space for intimate meetings, small corporate retreats and group functions. The property offers function space for up to 28 with audio-visual services available.

Slated to open in early 2019, The Kartrite Hotel and Indoor Waterpark will add a luxury hotel and the largest indoor waterpark in the state of New York to an exciting array of outdoor adventures, casino gaming, plus golf and entertainment in the Catskill Mountains.
Situated on the campus of the new Resorts World Catskills, The Kartrite is a luxury hotel that will feature 324 exquisitely designed suites, several innovative restaurants, a relaxing spa, an indoor ropes course, a mega arcade, plus two-acres of exhilarating four-season indoor waterpark space. For meetings, the hotel will boast 11,000-square feet of function space that features the latest in technology.
The new Resorts World Catskills campus also is set to include: a 100,000-square foot casino floor with 150 live table games, over 2,100 slot machines, a poker room and private gaming salons; an entertainment village that will provide additional entertainment and food options, along with a boutique hotel; and The Monster golf course, at one time the largest in the U.S., which is being redesigned by Rees Jones and will reopen in 2019.
The Kartrite’s Mountaintop restaurant will offer a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and beyond. Its menu will feature tapas and a selection of beer, wine and cocktails.
The property's Summit House will provide brides and grooms with an on-site reception venue to complement its mountaintop ceremony site.
